The Fueling the Future Grant at the Stafford Air & Space Museum helps schools overcome transportation barriers by reimbursing fuel costs for educational field trips to the museum. Inspired by General Thomas Stafford’s lifelong commitment to igniting a passion for exploration in young minds, this grant ensures that every child has the opportunity to take their first steps toward the stars.

Grant details:

Purpose

To support school field trips to the Stafford Air & Space Museum by reimbursing transportation fuel expenses.

Eligibility:

  • Open to public and private schools (Pre-K through 12th grade).
  • Schools must schedule an educational field trip to the Stafford Air & Space Museum.
  • Applications must be submitted before the scheduled trip.

Funding Amount

Grants reimburse up to $250 per school for fuel costs associated with transportation to and from the museum.

Grant Cycle

Applications are accepted year-round while funds are available. Schools are encouraged to apply early, as funds are limited.

Grant process:

1. Schedule Your Visit:

Contact the Stafford Air & Space Museum to schedule your field trip and confirm availability.

2. Submit Application:

Complete and submit the Fueling the Future Grant Application form at least two weeks before your scheduled visit.

3. Approval Notification:

The museum will notify applicants within five business days of receiving the application regarding grant approval.

4. Field Trip:

Bring your students for a guided educational experience at the Stafford Air & Space Museum!

5. Submit Fuel Receipt:

After the trip, submit a copy of the itemized fuel receipt along with a simple trip summary (provided form). appointed Chief of Astronauts at NASA

6. Reimbursement:

Approved schools will receive reimbursement (up to $250) within 30 days after submitting the required documents.

Grant Application Requirements

  • Completed application form (including number of students attending).
  • Proof of scheduled visit to the Stafford Air & Space Museum.
  • Agreement to submit fuel receipt and trip summary after the visit.
  • W-9 form (if required by the school’s accounting procedures).

Important Notes

  • Reimbursement only applies to fuel used for buses or school vehicles.
  • Grant funds cannot be applied toward rental buses or charter buses not owned/operated by the school.
  • Only one grant per school per academic year may be awarded (pending funding availability).
  • Field trip must include an educational component (tour, program, or workshop at the museum).
